Graciela Martínez-Zalce Sánchez, Ph.D.

Professor Martínez-Zalce is a tenured researcher. She currently coordinates the CISAN Globality Studies Area. Her research covers North American cultural studies, the theory of adaptation, and literary and film criticism with a gender focus.

She did her undergraduate work in Spanish language and literature at the Acatlán School of Higher Studies (FES); she studied in the UNAM School of Philosophy and Letters master’s program, and received her master’s and doctorate in modern letters from the Ibero-American University. She is a Level II member of the National System of Researchers and belongs to the PRIDE, Level D.

Professor Martínez-Zalce has been a visiting researcher at the Colegio de México Interdisciplinary Women’s Studies Program (PIEM) (2002-2003) and at the Cultures of Cities project, under the auspices of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada at McGill University’s Department of Art History and Communication Studies in Canada (2003); she took sabbatical leave to work at the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM), Cuajimalpa campus, Social Sciences and Humanities Division Department of Social Sciences (2006-2007). She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in the Ibero-American University Department of Letters; in the Translators Training Program and the Colegio de México Interdisciplinary Women’s Studies Program, at the FES Acatlán. She currently gives the seminar in literary research (film and literature) at the UNAM School of Philosophy and Letters College of Spanish Letters and a laboratory on border cinema at the Graduate Studies Program in Political and Social Sciences.

Professor Martínez Zalce was president of the Mexican Association of Canadian Studies and editor-in-chief of Revista Mexicana de Estudios Canadienses (Mexican Review of Canadian Studies), new era.

Among her publications are Cine y frontera. Territorios ilimitados de la mirada, Juan Carlos Vargas and Graciela Martínez-Zalce, comps. (Mexico City: CISAN-UNAM, Bonilla Artigas Editores, 2014). She co-authored with María de Lourdes López El ABC de la investigación literaria, de la monografía a la tesis de grado (The ABCs of Literary Research, from Monograph to Graduate Thesis) (2008) She has also edited the following collective works: Fronteras de tinta, la literatura y los medios de comunicación en las Américas: una bibliografía comentada (Borders of Ink, Literature and Communications Media in the Americas: an Annotated Bibliography (together with Víctor Granados and Jorge Olvera, eds., 2010); Norteamérica: construcción de espacios regionales (North America: Construction of Regional Spaces) (together with Alejandro Mercado and Miriam Alfie, eds., 2007) and Aprehendiendo al delincuente. Crimen y medios en América del Norte (Apprehending the Criminal. Crime and the Media in North America) (with Will Straw and Susana Vargas, eds. 2011). She has also published about 50 articles in specialized publications in Mexico and abroad.
